Styles and we're not talking about the runway...

Did you know there are different karate styles?

Shotokan (which is what we teach), Shito Ryu, Wado Ryu, Gojo Ryu, and other less known styles; Shorinji-ryu, Kyokushin-ryu, Shorin-ryu, Uechi-ryu and Isshin-ryu are all practiced around the world. Keep in mind that Taekwondo, Judo, and Jujitsu are other types of martial arts but do not use the same techniques as karate. Do you want full contact, no contact, jumps, kicks, wrestling or grappling techniques? You really need to research each style to see what is the best fit for you. And, ask the dojo director or Sensei what style best fits what you're looking for. Maybe you have physical limitations that will keep you from doing a contact sport. Perhaps you have a preference. A responsible and respectful dojo owner will always kindly advise you on what's best for you and never ask you to join knowing your preferences or physical limitations may not fit with what they teach.
